Pipe Wrench or PEX Tool? Match the Operation
A pipe wrench and a PEX joining tool do different jobs. A pipe wrench grips an appropriate workpiece so it can be held or turned. A PEX tool makes a particular connection by crimping a ring, cinching a clamp or expanding compatible pipe and components. Neither operation replaces the other.
Identify the operation first
Write down the pipe material, fitting identity and task. Turning an approved round pipe, working on a threaded fitting and making a PEX connection require different decisions. Do not buy a kit merely because its title includes plumbing or PEX.
Use the workpiece instructions for gripping

A blanket rule that every PEX-related fitting needs a pipe wrench is wrong; fittings with wrench flats need the tool and support method their manufacturer specifies.
Match PEX tooling to the connection
Identify the pipe, fitting, ring or clamp specification and required jaw or head size. A copper-ring crimper is not an expansion tool. Check the connection inspection and system-testing procedure before starting work; a visible squeeze mark alone is not an inspection result.
Read the kit as a parts list
