Before you buy

  1. Identify the connection. Record the pipe or fitting material, connection type and stated size. Similar-looking threaded, compression and push-fit parts are not automatically interchangeable.
  2. Check access and tool clearance. Measure the space around the work area. Compare handle length, jaw range and the room needed to operate the tool without damaging nearby surfaces.
  3. Match the tool to the material. Use the tool manufacturer guidance for supported materials and sizes. Check whether additional jaws, dies, adapters or consumables are required.
  4. Check replacement compatibility. For fixtures, confirm mounting dimensions, supply connections and the replacement parts specified for the exact model. Do not rely on appearance alone.
  5. Include maintenance and consumables. Compare service access, replacement seals or cartridges and the consumables needed over time. Read the care instructions before choosing a finish or material.
  6. Know the limits of a buying guide. Use manufacturer instructions for installation. For work requiring specialist knowledge, use an appropriately qualified professional rather than treating a product comparison as an installation procedure.

Check the exact model, included parts and current seller information before ordering. Prices, availability and product variants can change.

How to use the comparisons

Start with fit and compatibility, then weigh the tradeoffs relevant to your use. A useful feature for one setup may not be useful for another. Read the limitations and the exact model information in each article.
